Paperless progress notes- my first weekend

Hospitals are pushing forward into the digital age by moving the heavy thick paper charts to an electronic format. The transition has not been easy. After all medicine does not like change. The transition has been gradual over the years. Laboratory and radiology have been paperless at most hospitals since the early 1990s. Most local hospitals have had paperless nursing charting for years but getting physicians to do paperless charting has been the dilemma. Certainly it has its advantages the most well known often joked about fact is that most physician handwriting is illegible. Going paperless would put an end to the all day game of playing “Where is the chart”. Continue reading
